Completion of the first Tibetan language crash course

The completion of the first Tibetan language crash course (30 days, 90 hours) at the LTWA: The course was from March 20 to April 30, 2013. Students are taught: 1. How to pronounce Tibetan sounds, ranging from the Tibetan alphabet up to complex Tibetan words, 2. How to make conversations in Tibetan, from simple to complex speeches, and 3. How to write uchen and cursive scripts, from the letters of the alphabet to complex sentences. We had fourteen students in the beginning but two left in the middle. Twelve students completed the course: three students from Kalmyk, two from Australia, one each from USA, Greece, Russia, Canada, Germany, Holland and Buryatia (Mongolia).

Mr. Yash Singh & T.D. Sehra, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India visit

On 19th April, representatives from Ministry of Culture, Government of India, visited LTWA for an inspection. The members of the Inspection Committee were taken around the premises and briefed them about the developments and the challenges faced by LTWA by Director and General Secretary.

Two months Tibetan Cultural & Language Workshop

A function has been organized by the Tibetan Cultural & Research Department for the partcipants who will undergo two months' Tibetan language workshop here yesterday.  Director Geshe Lhakdor la greeted all the partcipants and urged the participants to utilized this opportunity to their utmost benefit.

Kalon Pema Chonjor Visited LTWA

On 15th April, Kalon Pema Chinjor, Minister of Department of Religion and Culture, CTA, paid a brief visit to LTWA. Escorted by LTWA Director, Geshe Lhakdor, and a senior official from the CTA, he was shown various departments and sections and their functioning.

Ambedkar University student visit

Organized by SFT, a group of students from Ambedkar University, New Delhi visited LTWA on Thursday, 28th February 2013. The Director Geshe Lhakdor lak welcomed the students and has given a brief talk about Buddhist Philosophy and its contribution to the science and vice versa.

Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Diocess of Amritsar

As deputed by Office of His Holiness, Geshe Lhakdor, the director of LTWA attended the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Diocess of Amritsar on 13 February. On this occasion of sixty years of its foundation and existence Geshe la as a Buddhist representative recited Buddhist prayers for World peace and spoke on the importance of internal transformation and genuine personal engagement for other’s well being and peace. The chief guest at the Convention on World Peace was His Excellency Shivraj Patil, Governor of Punjab and former Lok Sabha Speaker.

Science Leadership Workshop VIII December 24, 2012 to January 11, 2013

The recent workshop of the Sager Science Leadership Institute took place at Drepung Loseling Monastery from December 24, 2012, to January 11, 2013. During the three weeks the monk and nun science leaders worked on a variety of projects including a new exhibit on climate change, hands-on activities concerning various topics of science, writings about Buddhism and science, and studying astronomy and cosmology. Western faculty led the workshop sessions: Dr. Chris Impey (University of Arizona) taught on astronomy and cosmology; Tory Brady and Dr. Julie Yu (Exploratorium) led the monastics through dozens of new hands-on activities that explored a range of scientific topics, Dr. Jess Parker, Stephanie Norby, and Tracie Spinale (Smithsonian) guided the development of the new exhibit on climate change. The 3-week workshop concluded with the successful presentation of the World of Your Senses exhibit during the Mind and Life that was held from January 17 to 22, 2013.
