In 2003, the library was nominated as a resource centre for India 's National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM). The main thrust of the mission is to preserve age-old manuscripts pertaining to India 's cultural heritage, including its Buddhist heritage, while providing access to ancient literature to scholars, researchers and the interested public.
Aims and objectives of the National Manuscript Mission include:
Surveying, documenting and cataloguing Indian manuscripts, wherever they may be, and compiling a national database.
Providing ready access to these manuscripts through digitization and publication.
Promoting scholarship and research in the study of manuscripts.
